Fact Sheet

Project Description

Fist of the Forgotten is a 2.5D, momentum-based, combat, precision platformer with a silhouette visual style.  Responsive, fluid movement is a key focus, and game is designed to run buttery smooth with framerates exceeding 100fps.  This doesn’t mean story takes a back seat.  The environments are designed to be compelling with plausible goals to work through, not just “get to the flag at the end because video games”.  The fist, a relic of forgotten technology, will allow you to not only fight, but also open up new movement abilities to add more interesting elements of platforming as the game progresses.

Features

  • Fluid movement and animation designed to look great on high-refresh displays exceeding 100fps (as opposed to platformers locked at 30 or 60fps).
  • Highly optimized geometry and shaders for a unique silhouette visual style that runs well on high and lower-end hardware.
  • Mechanics, such as crouch sliding, to build up momentum (should be great for speed runners).
  • Intriguing environment and dialogue-free story that lets players choose if they want to investigate the world or just focus on playing with the mechanics.
  • Boss battles!
  • Collectables and secrets

Tips and Cheats

I know you’re busy and don’t have time to organically discover all the mechanics and conquer all the challenges, so here are a few tips and cheats:

  • Default controls are arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to attack on keyboard (or left stick/dpad to move, A to jump, X to attack on an XBox style controller).  Keys can be rebound under Settings | Controls if you’re uncomfortable with the default scheme.
  • Crouching lets you slide when moving, and if you’re on a slope, the reduced friction allows you to build up a lot of speed.
  • Momentum is maintained and compounded with jumps, so if you jump while already moving upward (ex: running up a ramp), you will jump higher.
  • Pressing and holding jump before you hit the ground will allow you to jump immediately as soon as you touch the ground, allowing you to maintain 100% of your horizontal momentum.
  • Holding jump allows you to jump higher.

If you really get stuck, you can access the development console by pressing the ~ key (under ESC to the left of the number keys).  Here are some useful commands:

  • “nextlevel” - if you really get stuck and just want to see what’s next (note, this won’t give you the fist if you skip the boss level).
  • “givefist” - if you skipped the boss level :)
  • “pickupsrequired 0” - if you get to the graveyard scene and don’t have all the required pickups (note: You’ll have to step away and return for the check to update).

Cool things to check out:

  • Try sliding down a hill to build up speed then repeatedly jumping to maintain the momentum.
  • Try to collect all the flowers and find the graveyard for a lore-revealing cutscene.  If you missed the secret graveyard scene, you can manually load it by typing “map StartLevel_Graveyard” at the console then “pickupsrequired 0”
